We sat down with our CEO, Samuel Bergman, to speak with him about the future of Rolyn, the healthcare industry, and what it takes to differentiate yourself in the disaster recovery industry.
Understanding the disaster response/remediation environment, economic conditions, and business resources help determine corporate vision. How has this industry evolved over the past 35 years and where do you see Rolyn heading in the future?
Now more than ever, leadership must remain vigilant in monitoring the changing trends in our industry, while also integrating and developing new ideas that improve efficiency and results. The disaster response/remediation business has become more of a commodity. The cost and workflow for these services are mostly dictated by estimating software and third party administrators, placing a lot of companies on the same playing field. It is the quality of service and timeliness that have become the differentiators.
At Rolyn, I anticipate that we will continue to invest and reinvest in the areas of safety, technology, and employee training – they allow us to stand out in a flooded market (pun intended). On the service end, I foresee a greater focus on expanding our healthcare division.
In the event of an epidemic, such as Ebola, how would Rolyn respond?
In the event of an Ebola outbreak, we work fast to assist our partner clients while at the same time, ensuring the safety of our valued team. Whether the case is within in a private or public sector building, we decontaminate the entire patient pathway; the vehicle the patient was transported in, as well as all areas visited/inhabited by the patient.
What sets Rolyn apart from other remediation, restoration, and decontamination companies?
Our consistent, high level of training sets us apart from other companies in our industry. Rolyn’s Director of Safety has created safety and accident prevention programs specific to each of our office locations to best ensure our employees are prepared to face any type of emergency. He is OSHA 500 & OSHA 501 Certified and makes sure we are trained in Asbestos Abatement, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Construction in Healthcare: CEI, Containment Construction & Negative Air Pressurization, Fire & Smoke Restoration, HIPAA Record Handling, Joint Commission Readiness, Lead Based Paint, and Mold Remediation.
What’s the difference between working in a healthcare setting versus any other commercial building?
In a healthcare setting, we must adhere to a number of precautions and guidelines. HIPAA laws need to be followed and ICRA compliance is vital when dealing with sick people (e.g. the source of the contaminant or others in that space that may be immune deficient). We put forth best practices to limit the spread of HAIs and limit bacteria and viruses from spreading further. When you’re working in a healthcare facility, it is important understand all the special precautions that must be taken – we must be cognizant of how our actions are effecting the space and people around us.
Managing a remediation company requires that the right people are on the job at the right time to perform their designated tasks. How do you define “the right people”?
The right people are individuals that are not only reactive, but proactive – those that are not afraid to step up and take initiative. We look for individuals who not only recognize a problem, but produce solutions. We value those who get along with others, and are sensitive to the needs and concerns of our clients.
